The term environment is an all-encompassing term, however the State planning legislation, the Integrated Planning Act (1997) defines the environment as:

  1. Ecosystems and their constituent parts including people and communities;
  2. All natural and physical resources;
  3. Those qualities and characteristics of locations, places and areas, however large or small, that contribute to their biological diversity and integrity, intrinsic or attributed scientific value or interest, amenity, harmony, and sense of community; and
  4. The social, economic, aesthetic and cultural conditions affecting thematters in paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) or affected by those matters."

The Pine Rivers district is renowned for its family lifestyle and natural environment. The shire encompasses 771 sq/km and has a population of 139,228 and growing. Throughout periods of strong growth, Council is committed to protecting and nurturing the natural environment of the area.

The Redcliffe district recognises the value of the City’s natural environment, with its beaches, parks, bushlands and wetlands being great homes for plants and animals and great places for leisure and recreation.

The City’s unique Moreton Bay location is what makes the area such a popular place to live, visit and do business. Redcliffe district manages approximately 591 hectares of bushland, wetland, marine habitat reserves and parkland across the City.

Under the Council’s Planning Scheme approximately 34% of Redcliffe City is zoned as Natural Values Zone and Open Space and Recreation Zone which is protected from development through town planning mechanisms.
